Battlefield 6 developers quietly remove controversial “Blue Crayola” skin after fan backlash over EA’s promise of grounded, realistic cosmetics

Battlefield 6 developers have removed one of Season 1’s most divisive outfits following strong fan backlash.

Before launch the team stressed it was “really important to us” that cosmetics felt grounded — a welcome promise after rival shooters leaned into outlandish crossover skins. What began with plausible tie-ins like athletes and Lara Croft gradually ballooned into bizarre additions — everything from Skeletor and Alucard to a personified marijuana character — and eventually even cel‑shaded versions of American Dad and Beavis & Butt‑Head.

Battlefield 6 didn’t introduce characters like BoJack Horseman or Randy Marsh, but some Season 1 outfits proved almost as polarizing. Although the packs are military‑inspired, several designs leaned heavily on bright, attention‑grabbing palettes. The most criticized was the vivid blue “Wicked Grin” kit — one player asked, “Why would you dress like a Blue Crayola?”

Players welcomed the change: ShooterIntel reported the Wicked Grin skin was quietly removed. A Reddit thread celebrating the removal drew praise, though not everyone was pleased — one Reddit user asked, “Why did they remove Crazy Frog from the game :(((,” and another on X lamented, “NOOOOOO WINDEX MAN.” Those reactions appear largely tongue‑in‑cheek.

There’s been no formal statement from the developers. The removal may be temporary, especially since other contentious outfits — notably a “Monster Energy” themed skin — were later revised and toned down after player feedback.

Battlefield 6 Season 1 and the RedSec Battle Royale rollout have left some fans accusing EA of steering the series toward a soulless Call of Duty clone: “I feel disgusted and downright sad!”
