Amazon’s “Mass Effect” TV series set after the original trilogy

Since Amazon announced last year that it was developing a Mass Effect television adaptation, many fans have hoped the series would carve out its own narrative rather than reproduce Commander Shepard’s journey. On November 7, 2025, BioWare answered that hope: in an official blog post, executive producer Mike Gamble confirmed the Amazon series will tell a brand-new story set after the events of the original trilogy and “won’t be a retread of Commander Shepard’s story.”

That positioning leaves a lot of room for the series’ direction — it might follow civilizations rebuilding after the Reaper war, or it could take place far in the future in a manner similar to Mass Effect: Andromeda. No cast has been announced yet; Variety reported that Doug Jung (Star Trek Beyond) was named showrunner and executive producer in June, and Daniel Casey is also attached as a writer and executive producer.

Gamble’s post offered fewer specifics about the next Mass Effect game, but he emphasized that development is underway and that both BioWare and EA remain committed to expanding the franchise. That reassurance came amid widespread speculation about EA’s multi-billion-dollar sale to private investors and associated rumors that parts of the company might change hands.

According to Gamble, the Mass Effect team is focused on the new title: there’s “a lot of universe to cover” and many systems — including romance mechanics — to design. He added that the studio is excited about what it’s building and will reveal more when the team is ready.

The blog post also contained a small puzzle: letters italicized across the entry spell out “URL Krogan N7.” Its meaning wasn’t explained, and the post closed with a tongue-in-cheek P.S. promising there were no secret spoilers to be gleaned. Separately, EA released free fan artwork called “Civil War” featuring Krogan warriors, which—together with the acrostic—may be a modest breadcrumb hinting at themes for the next game.

November 7 is celebrated annually as N7 Day, when BioWare traditionally teases new Mass Effect developments. For example, the studio’s 2023 N7 Day reveal included a short Mass Effect 5 teaser showing an N7 operative in a distinctive coat. Media outlets and fan sites marked N7 Day 2025 with features and retrospectives about the series’ history and community moments.
