Almost PS5 Level: Players Thrilled by Final Fantasy VII Remake Demo for Switch 2

New versions for the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S are slated for a January arrival.

On January 22, 2026, the reimagined journey of Final Fantasy VII will officially expand to the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S platforms. In anticipation of the launch, Square Enix has rolled out a free playable demo, which effectively doubles as a technical exhibition of the Nintendo Switch 2’s hardware capabilities.

A user on the ResetERA forums recently unveiled a series of screenshots from the Switch 2 build, reporting that the game not only boasts impressive visuals on the hybrid console but also maintains a surprisingly stable performance. While the general reception from the community has been high, some observers noted that character hair rendering appears slightly hit-or-miss in specific lighting conditions.

The demo features the intense Mako Reactor 1 infiltration mission, allowing players to control Cloud and Barret as they strike against the Shinra Electric Power Company in the heart of Midgar. Crucially, any progress made during the demo on the Switch 2 or Xbox Series X|S can be transferred to the full retail version. Additionally, players who import their save data will be granted a selection of bonus in-game items as a reward.
