Developers are reportedly revisiting legacy mechanics while potentially sunsetting the iconic Zombies mode in an upcoming installment.

According to reputable insider TheGhostOfHope, Sledgehammer Games—the studio behind Advanced Warfare, WWII, and Vanguard—is currently spearheading a new Call of Duty project. This title is expected to launch an entirely original sub-series, pivoting away from the established Modern Warfare and Black Ops universes. The game will introduce a fresh cast of characters and a narrative set during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Key gameplay refinements currently under consideration include:

  • The “Omnimovement” system from Black Ops 6 will be retained, though tactical sprinting may be removed to balance the pace.
  • Internal discussions suggest a return to the classic “Pick 10” class-creation system, a fan-favorite mechanic from earlier titles.
  • There are currently no plans for a Zombies mode, likely a move to prevent Treyarch from being overextended after developing back-to-back Black Ops entries.
  • In its place, the “Get High” parkour challenge mode, which debuted in Modern Warfare III, is slated for a comeback.

These leaks align with Activision’s recent pledge to deliver more transformative innovations and structural overhauls to the long-running Call of Duty franchise.
