Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil Movie Sets Streaming Release Date

Barbarian and Weapons director Zach Cregger crafted one of the best video game adaptations of all time with Resident Evil. Cregger applies his signature mix of horror and humor to the film, which follows a medical courier played by Austin Abrams. Abrams has to deal with rapidly mutating monsters while trying to make a very important delivery to Raccoon City.

Resident Evil is best enjoyed in a theater where you can share the laughs and jump scares with a crowd. If you want to pause when things get too tense or seamlessly transition from playing Resident Evil to watching it, here is what we know about when the film will be available digitally and on DVD.

When will Resident Evil be available to rent or purchase digitally?

We expect Resident Evil will follow the pattern of Sony’s other big horror franchises. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple made its VOD debut on Feb. 17 after opening on Jan. 16. Meanwhile, I Know What You Did Last Summer hit theaters on July 18, 2025, and got its digital release on Aug. 26, 2025. That means Resident Evil will probably arrive on VOD in October.

When will Resident Evil be available on Blu-ray/DVD?

Sony tends to wait about six to eight weeks between its digital and physical releases. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple got its physical release on April 21. I Know What You Did Last Summer dropped on 4K UHD digital, DVD, and Blu-ray on Oct. 7, 2025. That means you will probably see a special feature-packed Resident Evil before the end of 2026.

When will Resident Evil be available to stream on Netflix and Disney Plus?

Sony has a deal with Netflix that gives it exclusive access to its theatrical releases for 18 months, after which they head to Disney Plus. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple arrived on Netflix on March 31. I Know What You Did Last Summer dropped on Netflix on Oct. 16, 2025, which was three months after its theatrical release. That means Resident Evil will likely begin streaming on Netflix in December and come to Disney Plus in the summer of 2028.
