Xbox Exclusives Haven’t Been Nominated for “Game of the Year” in 15 Years

The nominees for The Game Awards 2025 have been revealed, and winners will be announced on December 11. Notably, Xbox exclusives are absent — once again denying the platform a chance at the coveted prize.

Insider Nick Marseil published on X the complete list of Game of the Year nominees since 2013, organized by platform: PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox.

PlayStation earned 15 nominations, including The Last of Us, Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, Death Stranding 2 and others. Nintendo claimed 12 nominations, featuring Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Donkey Kong Bananza and more. Xbox did not appear on the list.

Xbox’s most recent Game of the Year nominations came before The Game Awards existed: Halo: Reach and Mass Effect 2 were nominated at the Spike Video Game Awards, but neither title won.

Current TGA 2025 nominees: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Donkey Kong Bananza, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, and Hades 2.
