Xbox 360 Exclusive Lost Odyssey Coming to PC After Nearly 20 Years

Lost Odyssey is coming to Windows nearly 20 years after its release thanks to a fan-made recompilation project that already allows players to explore early areas, battle, save, and watch cutscenes.

Lost Odyssey remained tied to Microsoft consoles for almost two decades. The situation is now changing thanks to a project that ports the original code from the PowerPC architecture to C++ instead of using classic Xbox 360 emulation.

Version 0.1 currently only lets players get through the opening portion of the game, but it already supports controller input, saves, basic graphics settings, resolution scaling, FXAA, and windowed mode. The creators plan to add high-resolution rendering, widescreen support, DLSS, FSR, HDR, improved shadows, SSAO, Vulkan, potential Steam Deck support, and frame generation in the future.

A full release is still a long way off because the project requires testing for later sections of the game, disc swapping, and improved stability. Lost Odyssey originally launched in 2007 across four DVDs, and the project requires game files from the user’s own copy to run.

An official PC version of the RPG from Mistwalker and Feelplus never existed. The game was led by Hironobu Sakaguchi, with music composed by Nobuo Uematsu and character designs by Takehiko Inoue. The story follows Kaim Argonar, an immortal who has lived for about a thousand years and lost a significant portion of his memories.
