“Worrying for Double Fine”: Keeper’s Online Fails to Reach 200 Players — One of the Studio’s Worst Performances on Steam

It appears the game had trouble drawing players’ attention.

Keeper, from the creators of Psychonauts, launched recently and earned “Very Positive” reviews on Steam.

However, the title had a weak debut on Valve’s platform — Keeper’s peak concurrent player count topped out at just 165. This ranks among the studio’s lowest Steam peaks; only the VR release Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin recorded fewer players, with 100. See the figures.

The underwhelming start comes amid a wave of studio closures and layoffs at Microsoft, so users like bezdar’ 無能 are expressing concern about Double Fine Productions’ future:

“Just a standard walking simulator with lovely visuals and a touch of psychedelia. With such poor online numbers I’m a bit worried for Double Fine — I hope Microsoft doesn’t shut them down.”
