Will Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition 2 on Switch Disappoint? Video Comparisons Emerge

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has launched on both Switch 2 and Switch 1 — and player reactions have been mixed. The title appeared on the eShop with no prior announcement, trailer, or marketing push, catching Lara Croft fans off guard.

The Switch 2 version immediately drew attention from console owners who wanted to compare it with the PS5 release. Early comparisons of graphics and world detail have started circulating online.

YouTuber ElAnalistaDeBits has not hidden his disappointment with the port. Despite the Switch 2’s stronger hardware, this release noticeably trails the PS4 edition from about twelve years ago. The downgrades are most evident in hair rendering, shadows, foliage, and lighting. The developers did add a few trees and achieved a steady 60 FPS at a higher resolution than the PS4 build — where 60 FPS was uncommon. The game remains enjoyable, but it clearly doesn’t tap the console’s full potential.

The bigger question is what comes next. The surprise arrival of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on Switch 2 without fanfare fuels hope that Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider could eventually make their way to the platform.
