The developers observed which camera perspective players tended to choose in the game.
In Resident Evil Requiem, the team provides two camera options from the start: a first-person view and a third-person (over-the-shoulder) perspective.
At the Tokyo Game Show 2025, Capcom spotted a distinct pattern: Western players largely preferred the first-person view, while Japanese attendees more often opted for third-person.
In an interview with Denfaminicogamer, game director Koshi Nakanishi suggested this could be rooted in each region’s gaming history. Many Western players grew up on PC first-person shooters like DOOM, whereas console RPGs with third-person perspectives — for example Dragon Quest on the Famicom (NES) — were more formative in Japan.
Still, he noted that tastes are shifting: Japanese gamers are increasingly comfortable with first-person titles such as Minecraft and Apex Legends. He expressed interest in seeing a comprehensive analysis of these changing preferences.
