Valve Continues Development on Steam Deck 2 Despite Memory Crisis

Valve continues to monitor current market conditions and is evaluating when it will be able to release the device.

Valve has not abandoned plans to release the next generation of its portable PC, the Steam Deck. Company developers Pierre-Loup Griffais and Lawrence Yang confirmed in an interview with IGN that work on the Steam Deck 2 is ongoing, and problems with RAM pricing have not yet affected the company’s plans.

Griffais noted that Valve is sticking to its previous approach for creating the new version of the device. According to the developer, the Steam Deck 2 must deliver a significant enough performance boost compared to the original model to make the upgrade truly worthwhile.

He added that the company continues to monitor current market conditions and is evaluating when it will be able to release the device. At the same time, Valve’s goals for the Steam Deck 2 remain roughly the same as before, focusing not just on a new generation of hardware, but on improving the user experience and creating a product with noticeably higher performance.
