Unity Games to Be Added to Fortnite as Engine Runs on Unreal — Giants Join Forces

The industry is on the verge of a major alignment between two leading technology companies. Unity and Epic Games have announced a partnership they say will mark a new chapter in the evolution of the gaming market.

Epic Games and Unity unveiled a collaboration that both companies believe could influence the future direction of the industry.

At Unity’s annual conference, organizers revealed that projects built with the engine will be eligible for release inside Fortnite. Over time, Epic Games’ title has grown beyond a shooter into a full-fledged ecosystem with more than 500 million registered accounts. Developers will be able to participate in the Fortnite Creator Economy and publish their projects on the platform.

The agreement also includes a technical integration: Unity will add support for Unreal Engine within its cross-platform commerce system. Developers working with Epic’s engine will gain expanded tools for managing catalogs, payment methods, and web stores across PC, mobile, and browser platforms. They will be able to set pricing, discounts, and service operations via Unreal Engine. This support is slated to arrive in early 2026, when further details and a timeline for initial releases will be disclosed.

Unity and Epic Games say the partnership could reshape how future games are developed. Epic’s founder, Tim Sweeney, compared the moment to the Internet’s formative days, arguing that the industry needs a shared push forward to build open metaverses, ensure fair terms, and give creators greater avenues to showcase their work.
