Ubisoft Says Generative AI Is a Revolution Comparable to the Shift to 3D Graphics in Games
In its earnings report, Ubisoft confirmed it plans to integrate generative AI into future games.
CEO Yves Guillemot has expressed strong support for AI tools, which are now being adopted across all of Ubisoft’s studios. He compares AI’s potential impact on the current era of gaming to the industry-shifting move from 2D console sprites to 3D polygonal graphics in the late 1990s.
Ubisoft is already applying AI within its NPC initiative, Project Neo, to make characters feel more alive and realistic while reducing portions of the development workload. It remains uncertain how the company will deploy AI more broadly in upcoming titles — for example, whether it will be used to generate marketing images and backgrounds or to create in-game content.
The technology could also be linked to a user-generated content platform similar to EA’s approach. Ubisoft has even developed a chatbot that can produce games “on the fly,” allowing users to enter commands that modify the world’s state in real time.
