Ubisoft rushed to meet cost‑cutting targets, laying off 1,500 employees in the past 12 months
Although the company even exceeded its targets, the employees who remain should not become complacent.
Over the past 12 months, Ubisoft has dismissed roughly 1,500 staff members — all as part of a cost-reduction program. About 700 of those were laid off after March 31, 2025, according to the company’s latest financial report.
The program’s original goal — to cut the company’s underlying costs by €200 million by fiscal 2026 compared with 2023 — was already met in 2025. Management said the plan was completed “ahead of schedule and slightly above target”.
However, employees who kept their positions should not relax, because Ubisoft is entering a new phase: the company plans to reduce costs by an additional €100 million by fiscal 2027 (compared with 2025).
Amid the wave of layoffs, Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot reiterated the company’s strategic bet on generative artificial intelligence. In his words, it is “a revolution for the industry on a scale comparable to the shift from 2D to 3D graphics”.
