Tides of Annihilation Developers Respond to Accusations of Downgrading Heroine’s Face
The developers of Tides of Annihilation have clarified that protagonist Gwen’s base 3D model remains untouched, explaining that shifts in her visual presentation are the result of upgraded skin rendering, improved clothing materials, lighting adjustments, and new facial animation tech.
The statement follows social media discussions after recent gameplay footage was released, where some players claimed the protagonist’s design had been altered or downgraded.
The development team directly addressed the community feedback:
To be crystal clear, we have not changed Gwen’s character model, and her model remains the same since the game was first revealed. From the start of the project, we wanted to create a heroine that combines Eastern and Western aesthetics, and that approach has not changed.
The studio explained that the team has updated skin rendering, refined clothing materials, introduced new outfits, and adjusted lighting parameters. The developers also recently integrated new facial technology, which altered how certain facial expressions look in motion.
The developers noted that they will continue to improve and polish the title throughout production. A release date for Tides of Annihilation has not yet been announced.
