The Witcher 4 to Preserve the Trilogy’s Style While Drawing on Larian’s Experience

The Witcher 4 draws inspiration from Baldur’s Gate 3’s success, but CD Projekt RED is determined not to recreate the same game.

CD Projekt RED is renowned for expansive open worlds packed with deep side quests and memorable characters, and for experimenting across genres.

Studio co-head Michał Nowakowski said in an interview:

We took inspiration from Baldur’s Gate 3’s success, but we remain grounded in the principles of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk. We don’t intend to produce another title in the exact same mould with only improved visuals — our goal is to introduce genuine innovation.

CD Projekt RED acknowledges Larian’s influence:

They excel at crafting this kind of game. In particular, their methods for how the world reacts and interacts have been a wellspring of inspiration for us.

The Witcher 4, with Ciri as the lead character, is not expected to launch before 2027.
