The Witcher 4 official launch window announced by CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt Red has officially set the launch trajectory for The Witcher 4, earmarking 2028 for the next grand chapter in the storied dark fantasy franchise. The announcement arrived via a video broadcast across the studio’s social channels, featuring joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski sharing critical production milestones ahead of Gamescom festivities.

While tempering expectations by clarifying that the highly anticipated sequel will not be playable on the convention floor nor featured during Gamescom Opening Night Live, Nowakowski moved proactively to satisfy the community’s yearning for concrete progress.

“While we’re not showing The Witcher 4 at the event, and we’re not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this: The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window,” stated Nowakowski. “I know it’s a bit of a wait, and you’d love to play it sooner, but let the team cook. It will be worth the wait.”

Bridging the Continental Divide

Rather than prematurely showcasing the mainline sequel, CD Projekt Red’s immediate Gamescom presence is dedicated to unveiling The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past. This substantial 2027 expansion breathes fresh life into the studio’s decade-old masterpiece. Producer Geoff Keighley confirmed that the expansion’s debut gameplay reveal will headline Opening Night Live, complemented by hands-on opportunities at CD Projekt Red’s dedicated expo pavilion.

Originally teased during The Game Awards 2024, The Witcher 4 transitions the protagonist mantle to Ciri, exploring her journey as a fully realized, hardened Witcher navigating an uncompromising world. The upcoming Songs of the Past DLC is widely expected to serve as the critical narrative bridge harmonizing Geralt of Rivia’s legacy with Ciri’s burgeoning saga.
