The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake for Nintendo Switch 2 Arrives in 2026

After years of fervent speculation, Nintendo has officially confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is being remade for the Nintendo Switch 2, with a release window slated for later in 2026.

First debuting on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, Ocarina of Time remains a landmark title in gaming history. Widely celebrated by critics and fans alike as one of the greatest games ever crafted, its return has been one of the industry’s most anticipated projects.

The reveal trailer keeps things mysterious, opening with a narrator recounting the lore of the Kokiri forest and the legend of the boy without a fairy. The tension builds as we see a young Link slumbering, only for the iconic Triforce symbol to manifest on his hand. The teaser concludes with a refined, modern logo for Ocarina of Time, confirming the 2026 launch.

This is far from the title’s first re-release. Fans may recall the promotional GameCube discs bundled with pre-orders of The Wind Waker in 2002, which featured a port of the game alongside the elusive Master Quest. The game also saw various releases through the Collector’s Edition compilation, the Wii and Wii U Virtual Consoles, and it is currently available via the Nintendo Switch Online service.

While the franchise has appeared on nearly every Nintendo console since the nineties, this marks only the second full-scale remake. Developer Grezzo famously rebuilt the game for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011, introducing revamped visuals, intuitive motion controls, and stereoscopic depth.
