The Blood of Dawnwalker to Run at 60 FPS on Consoles via Day-One Patch

Following substantial community pushback regarding console performance targets, developer Rebel Wolves has confirmed that its dark fantasy action-RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, will support a 60 frames-per-second performance option at launch courtesy of an incoming day-one update.
The controversy initially erupted after the studio released a console gameplay trailer that showed the title capped at a 40 fps target on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. For a fast-paced action title, the lack of a fluid 60 fps option sparked immediate disappointment across the gaming community. Rebel Wolves quickly moved to quell player concerns via an official community update.
“Performance Mode was already actively in development, but it was undergoing rigorous testing,” the studio shared on social media. “We were hesitant to make promises prematurely. However, after hearing your feedback and recognizing how crucial this is to your experience, we prioritized finishing this testing phase. The results were conclusive enough to officially confirm Performance Mode for Day 1.”
Console Graphical Modes Breakdown
With the release-day patch applied, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will have access to three distinct visual presets:
- Performance Mode: Targets a fluid 60 FPS for responsive combat.
- Balanced Mode: Targets 40 FPS to strike a midpoint between fidelity and smoothness.
- Quality Mode: Targets 30 FPS with maximum visual detail and resolution.
Players on the PlayStation 5 Pro can look forward to enhanced visual upgrades, although specific technical configurations have yet to be disclosed. Meanwhile, the entry-level Xbox Series S will remain locked to a standard 30 FPS baseline.
High Expectations for Rebel Wolves’ Debut
Pulling off an eleventh-hour optimization pass ahead of the September 3 release date presents a tight turnaround, but delivering a steady 60 FPS is paramount for a high-intensity action-RPG. Formed by key former CD Projekt Red veterans with credits on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, Rebel Wolves carries considerable pedigree, positioning The Blood of Dawnwalker as one of the most closely watched releases of the autumn season.
