The Blood of Dawnwalker Has No Main Story — Rebel Wolves Breaks RPG Structure

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, lead developer on The Blood of Dawnwalker, said in an interview that the game will not feature a single central quest. The studio aims to evoke the feel of tabletop RPGs and give players as much freedom as possible.

There isn’t a main quest. You assemble your journey from the missions you come across. You know where your [enemy] is, and you can strike that location whenever you choose. Decide for yourself — go alone, focus on building your character, search for powerful gear, or take on tasks and recruit allies.

According to the developers, the game still has an overarching framework. The protagonist, Coen, must rescue his family within 30 days and 30 nights. How the player spends that time is entirely up to them.

We wanted to take a step forward and carve out our own niche within the genre.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is scheduled for release in 2026 on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The team has said they aspire to the production standards of The Witcher 3, and the main storyline is expected to run around 30–40 hours. Rebel Wolves includes former CD Projekt RED developers on its roster, including Tomaszkiewicz, who was the game director on The Witcher 3.
