The Best Zelda: Ocarina of Time Controller Replacement Is Currently $30 Cheaper
When Nintendo showcased the initial gameplay of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake last September, they also revealed a limited-edition Switch 2 console and a matching Pro Controller. Ever since, both items have vanished from major storefronts due to relentless demand. For fans eager to bypass the endless restock anxiety, Amazon-owned retailer Woot is offering the 2023 Switch 1 Pro Controller—adorned with striking motifs inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom—for $69.99 through midnight E.T. on October 5. (It’s also currently matched at GameStop for $69.99, though that inventory is subject to change.)
According to Nintendo’s official storefront, the standard MSRP for the Tears of the Kingdom peripheral rests at $74.99, though it remains permanently sold out directly through the publisher. To clear up any pricing confusion circulating online: while the next-generation Switch 2 Pro Controller commands $89.99, the Tears of the Kingdom gamepad is an older, legacy Switch 1 model.
Although they share a striking silhouette, several key technical differences set the Switch 1 and Switch 2 Pro Controllers apart. The newer Switch 2 iterations—alongside the upcoming Ocarina of Time variant—introduce a 3.5mm headphone jack, assignable rear paddle buttons (GL/GR), refined haptic feedback, and a dedicated C button tailored for GameChat. If those modern creature comforts aren’t a priority for you, the previous-generation hardware remains an exceptional value. Visually, the newer Switch 2 edition blends black, gold, and vibrant green hues, whereas its predecessor opts for a sophisticated black, gold, and white palette. The Zonai iconography on the older model offers a more understated elegance, contrasting with the flashier, metallic Triforce embellishments of the newer release.
While the precise savings on the Tears of the Kingdom edition are up for interpretation, its $69.99 price tag undercuts the upcoming Ocarina of Time controllers significantly—the latter of which costs $99 standalone or $109 when bundled with a display stand. Furthermore, secondary marketplaces routinely inflate the price of the Tears of the Kingdom gamepad well past the $100 mark due to scarcity. For collectors eager to incorporate a themed controller into their current gaming setup without paying exorbitant reseller markups, this promotion is hard to ignore.
Should you prefer to hold out for the Ocarina of Time Pro Controller, you can download the official Nintendo Store app to receive push notifications the moment inventory replenishes. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches on November 5, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
