Final Fantasy VII Revelation Director Explains Physical Disc Release Decision
Final Fantasy VII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi has explained that the game is about 200 GB in size, meaning its single Blu-ray disc will hold only the beginning while the rest must be downloaded.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch in a physical edition on a single Blu-ray disc, and players will need to download the remaining game files from the internet to complete it.
Unlike previous entries in the remade trilogy, which were released on two discs, the finale will require downloading additional content across all platforms. According to director Naoki Hamaguchi, the game will be around 200 GB in size, and a complete physical edition would have required up to three discs and significantly increased costs.
Hamaguchi noted that he is responsible for game quality and the artistic side, whereas the publishing department and platform partners determine the distribution format. At the same time, he is a fan of physical editions and opposed a complete transition to digital distribution.

I did everything I could to get Final Fantasy VII Revelation released on a disc in boxed retail versions at all.
Ultimately, the disc will function as a physical key of sorts, containing the opening portion of the game before requiring players to download the rest of the data from the servers.
