Japanese Consumers Sell Out PS5 Pro Despite Sony Lottery System
The PS5 Pro has completely sold out in Japan, despite a Sony lottery system that required a minimum of 60 hours of playtime on a PS4 or PS5 over a two-year period.
The PS5 Pro sold out in Japan even though Sony introduced a lottery designed to protect the consoles from bots and resellers.
Because high demand meant standard pre-orders were not enough, Sony’s Japanese division launched a raffle for the right to purchase the PS5 Pro through its online store. Entering the raffle did not guarantee receiving a console.
To enter the lottery, participants needed a Japanese Sony account linked to a My Sony ID, along with at least 60 hours of playtime on a PS4 or PS5 between September 27, 2024, and September 27, 2026. This requirement was intended to weed out resellers and mass-created accounts.
First-wave winners will receive emails on October 26, 2026. Purchases at the official price must be paid for by November 2. Unclaimed consoles will be put into a secondary drawing.

The Japanese market has long dealt with resellers, making the lottery a measure to limit price spikes ahead of the holiday season.
