‘The Bear’ creators explain Paul Rudd’s cameo

The creative team behind the hit series “The Bear” has finally shed light on one of the show’s most debated “secret” cameos: the elusive appearance of Paul Rudd, which had fans speculating for years. This was reported by The Wrap.

The discussion centers on a scene from the first season where Neil Fak, portrayed by Matty Matheson, plays a round of the arcade game “Ballbreaker.” The voice of the game’s character belongs to Rudd; however, since the actor was never officially credited, it sparked long-standing curiosity and debate among the audience.

Subsequent episodes featured further “Easter eggs” nodding to the actor. In the second season, a framed photo of Rudd can be spotted on the restaurant wall with the caption “Paul Rubb”—a tongue-in-cheek play on his name that became a recurring inside joke for the production crew. By the third season, a cardboard cutout of the actor even makes an appearance in the restaurant, serving as a comedic prop.

Matty Matheson explained that Rudd is a close friend of the show’s creator, Christopher Storer, which paved the way for his unconventional involvement in the series. He noted that these hidden details were intentionally crafted as private jokes designed specifically for the crew and the most observant viewers.
