Deadline has revealed the actresses slated to take on key female roles in Michael Mann’s highly anticipated sequel to his crime thriller masterpiece, “Heat.”

Odessa Young, the Australian actress recognized for her performances in “The Staircase” and “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” is reportedly in talks to portray Charlene. This character, originally brought to life by Ashley Judd in the 1995 classic, is the wife of Chris Shiherlis—a role that will be played by Leonardo DiCaprio in the follow-up.

The upcoming film will also introduce a new character named Gaby, though specific details regarding her arc remain under wraps. Eiza González is currently the frontrunner for the part. Other talent, including “Obsession” star Índia Navarrette, also auditioned for the role before it was narrowed down to González.

The powerhouse cast for “Heat 2” already includes Christian Bale, Adam Driver, Stephen Graham, and Jason Clarke. The screenplay draws from the 2022 bestseller co-authored by Mann and Meg Gardiner, with the narrative set to oscillate between events occurring before and after the original film. While an official release date has yet to be confirmed, production is expected to commence this fall.
