The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu Art Book Due Nov. 3
After three seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney Plus and this summer’s feature film The Mandalorian and Grogu, the fate of Din Djarin and the adorable “Baby Yoda” is unclear. The latest theatrical release for the Star Wars franchise disappointed both commercially and critically for Disney and Lucasfilm. Fans can still return to the show’s world, though, with a new release slated for November.
The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu promises to take readers behind the scenes of the first Star Wars theatrical release in seven years. The book offers “an exclusive look at the art created for the newest Star Wars film and the stories behind its characters, locations, and vehicles.”
Publisher Abrams Books has already released similar behind-the-scenes art books for Star Wars series such as Andor and The Acolyte. It calls the new title an official companion to this year’s adventure set in a galaxy far, far away.
According to the official description, the collection is filled with concept art, sketches, and interviews with key cast, crew, and creatives. Lucasfilm creative art manager Phil Szostak wrote it. He previously authored The Art of Star Wars: Andor, The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (seasons 1 and 2), and The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He also worked on the scrapped LucasArts game Star Wars: 1313.
Abrams Books will publish the 256-page full-color book on Nov. 3. The $50 hardcover is available for pre-order now.
How the film performed

The Mandalorian‘s first three seasons streamed on Disney Plus from 2019 to 2023. Show creator Jon Favreau directed The Mandalorian and Grogu and co-wrote it with Dave Filoni. The film reached theaters in May. Critics were mostly positive, but audiences didn’t show up in force to make Mando and Grogu’s jump to the big screen a Star Destroyer-sized success.
Polygon entertainment editor Jake Kleinman reviewed the film and took a more critical view of its audience:
“The Mandalorian and Grogu isn’t a movie for long-time Star Wars fans; it’s a desperate attempt to cultivate a new generation before it’s too late.” He continued: “Baby Yoda was a once-in-a-generation character whose appeal has more to do with his visual design than the canon and lore that surrounds him (a tradition that dates back to the very beginning of Star Wars). Jon Favreau understands this better than anyone. He’s made a movie seemingly built around cute cutaways to Grogu and occasional reference to something older Star Wars fans will recognize. The kids will go home happier than anyone still seething over the prequel trilogy.”

The Mandalorian and Grogu is now streaming on Disney Plus. For physical media, see Polygon’s report on the film’s 4K Blu-ray release.
