Team Cherry Explains Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Price
Following Hollow Knight’s success — which surpassed 15 million copies sold — Team Cherry had little concern about Silksong’s potential revenue.
The new release is priced at $20 in the U.S., five dollars higher than the original. Silksong is also larger and was in development for roughly six years.
The relatively low price surprised many developers. Peers commented that Team Cherry are generous — “basically giving their game away” — since most indie studios couldn’t sustain that combination of scale and price.
One of the studio’s leads, Ari Gibson, explained:
We aim to set fair prices for our games. We also tend to expand the amount of content significantly — it was inevitable this would grow into a full game.
Silksong began as a DLC for Hollow Knight, but the project expanded until Hornet had her own world. Gibson added that choosing $20 made sense: “Yes — five dollars more, that feels right.”
