Resident Evil Requiem has not only captivated critics with its atmospheric horror but has also emerged as a massive commercial juggernaut. Following the chilling journey of Leon S. Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft, Capcom has officially confirmed that the nightmare is far from over, with new story-driven DLC now in active development.
Director Koshi Nakanishi took to social media to share the game’s extraordinary milestone: Requiem has surpassed five million copies sold since its debut on February 27. In a video message to the community, Nakanishi expressed profound gratitude for the fans’ reception before unveiling the roadmap for future updates. Players can expect a series of performance optimizations, followed by a dedicated Photo Mode and a mysterious new mini-game slated for release this May. However, the headline revelation was the production of a major story expansion designed to “delve deeper into the world of Requiem.”
Nakanishi’s full statement to the fans provided a glimpse into the team’s commitment:
“I am Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil Requiem. Since our launch on February 27th, the overwhelming enthusiasm from our players has propelled the game to over five million sales. On behalf of the entire development team, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude. Thank you so much!
We recently deployed an update to resolve initial bugs, and we remain dedicated to refining performance. Beyond technical fixes, we are excited to bring more content to the game. First is the highly anticipated Photo Mode. Additionally, we have a surprise coming in May—a new mini-game. We want to ensure Resident Evil Requiem continues to exceed your expectations.
Furthermore, we have officially begun work on additional story content that explores the lore of Requiem more extensively. This project is currently in the works and will require some time to complete, so we appreciate your patience. We look forward to sharing more when the time is right. Thank you again for your incredible support!”
The announcement wasn’t without its playful moments. During the video, Nakanishi humorously showcased several “concept” flyers. These included a Bond-inspired romantic thriller titled “Forbidden Requiem” featuring Leon, and a whimsical “Biohazard Requiem” DLC where the protagonists were replaced by cats. Another slide depicted the game’s primary antagonist, Victor Gideon, engaged in a high-stakes card game reminiscent of Inscryption. While these were clearly tongue-in-cheek jokes, Capcom has a history of surprising its audience—especially after previously downplaying Leon’s involvement prior to the game’s reveal.
The confirmation of a narrative expansion aligns with the post-launch strategies of Resident Evil 7 and Village, both of which received substantial DLC.
