Invincible VS Developer Hit by Mass Layoffs as Majority of Staff Leaves
Game developer Quarter Up has reportedly laid off a major portion of its workforce following the launch of Invincible VS, with estimates suggesting at least 75% of the staff was cut.
Former lead engineer Daniel Högberg shared that he was let go “along with most of the rest of my team a couple of weeks ago.” Another former engineer, Daniel Schlesinger, confirmed that he also lost his position alongside many coworkers.
An anonymous employee reported that Quarter Up laid off roughly 75% of its workforce last month. Another source indicated that 35 people departed from a team of around 50. The job cuts reportedly began in June with four staff members, followed by another 29 departures in July.
According to one source, the studio retained only a skeleton crew to support the game through its first wave of DLC. A former employee pointed to weak commercial performance for Invincible VS as the primary cause behind the cuts:
It is presumed that Invincible VS did not perform as well as Quarter Up expected, and unfortunately they did not have the budget to keep people on.
