The reboot of the acclaimed Science Adventure visual novel will arrive later than originally expected.
Spike Chunsoft has released a new trailer for Steins;Gate Re:Boot — a reimagined edition of the cult 2009 visual novel. At the same time, the publisher confirmed the launch has been delayed to 2026; the title had previously been slated for 2025. The company explained that the development team needs additional time to polish the project.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot is being developed as a full reinterpretation rather than a simple remaster. Character redesigns were handled by artist huke — the original designer of Kurisu Makise and Rintaro Okabe. He refreshed the characters’ clothing and accessories, giving them a more contemporary yet still recognizable look. Key story scenes were redrawn under his direction, and several new episodes have been added to the script.
According to the team, Re:Boot will offer an improved narrative structure and multiple alternate endings. The gameplay will remain text-driven but will feature a redesigned interface, smoother animations, and a modern visual presentation. The campaign is expected to last roughly 30–50 hours.
The original Steins;Gate, released in 2009, quickly became one of the most influential visual novels in the genre. The game inspired a successful anime series, a feature film, and the spin-off Steins;Gate 0. MAGES. is also currently developing Steins;Gate 0 Elite.
