Spider-Man Cosplayer Confronts White Supremacists

A Spider-Man cosplayer drew widespread attention after confronting a group of white supremacists in Minneapolis over the weekend. Video footage showed the costumed demonstrator engaging far-right activists who held a sign displaying a racial slur. The cosplayer jumped onto the bed of their truck, trading punches with rally participants while attempting to pull the sign away. Photographer Chris Juhn documented the altercation, capturing an image of the cosplayer winding up a punch.

The Demonstration and Arrests

Far-right provocateur Jake Lang organized the gathering. Lang previously served prison time for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot before receiving a pardon from Donald Trump. The Minneapolis rally was arranged to protest the sentencing of Shiloh Hendrix, a woman found guilty of yelling racial slurs at a Black autistic child on a playground. Counter-protesters gathered in larger numbers across the street to oppose the group, and local reporter Mark Wasson posted video of the ensuing physical fight on TikTok.

Police intervened and arrested both Lang and the Spider-Man cosplayer. Keyssy Ayala Castro Figuero later identified himself as the person in the costume. Figuero set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for legal defense and medical care, stating that officers tackled and struck him during the arrest. The fundraiser quickly accumulated nearly $12,000 in contributions.

Lang’s Recent Actions and Regional Tensions

Lang has remained involved in multiple legal controversies since receiving his presidential pardon. He organized an antisemitic event in Washington, D.C., where he performed Nazi salutes and screamed racial epithets. Authorities in Minnesota also accused him of property damage after he allegedly defaced an anti-ICE ice sculpture, and he was arrested for threatening to kill Karmelo Anthony.

The clash took place amid broader unrest in the area. Minneapolis has seen repeated protests following a surge of anti-immigration ICE raids. Earlier demonstrations turned deadly when federal agents shot and killed two individuals. An ICE officer killed Renée Good on Jan. 7, and United States Border Patrol agents shot Alex Pretti on Jan. 24. While the pace of enforcement actions has slowed, tensions across the city remain elevated.
