Monster Hunter Wilds Sold 800,000 Copies in First Half of Fiscal Year 2026
Sales of the once-popular game were modest in the first half of the fiscal year. Capcom is counting on the release of the Ascendance expansion and a Nintendo Switch 2 version to boost them.
Capcom’s financial report provided updated sales figures for its biggest games, but Monster Hunter Wilds was not among them. The publisher later disclosed the numbers in its responses to investor questions: the game sold approximately 800,000 copies in the first half of the current fiscal year.
According to the Platinum Titles list, Wilds had sold 11.8 million copies as of June 30, 2026. In the second fiscal quarter, which ended September 30, the game sold approximately 400,000 more copies. By comparison, Monster Hunter Rise, released in 2021 on fewer platforms, sold 700,000 copies over a comparable period (plus six days). Its lifetime sales later surpassed 20 million copies.
Capcom, however, is not overly concerned about the situation. The company says sales momentum improved following the announcement of a Nintendo Switch 2 version and the major expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, as well as price adjustments.
The publisher plans to launch advertising campaigns for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, with the goal of increasing sales of the game over the medium and long term.
It is no secret that sales of the action RPG slowed sharply after an impressive launch. Reported reasons included insufficient difficulty, a lack of content for high-level players, and technical problems.
Monster Hunter Wilds will be released for Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026.
