Too Old to Romance Rogue, Marvel Finds Replacement for Channing Tatum as Gambit
Indya Navarrette will play Rogue in the X-Men reboot, making her 21 years younger than the current Gambit.
Caleb Williams, a journalist at Knight Edge Media, reported that Marvel Studios has been looking for a new actor to play Gambit since September. Other insiders have responded to his report. Cartier Films named 33-year-old Drew Starkey, known for Outer Banks, as a possible candidate, while James Mack claims the actor has already been cast.
According to Williams, Tatum is being replaced because of the age gap between him and Navarrette, who is 25. Tatum is 46. The reported reason may be a romantic storyline planned to unfold across several films. In the comics, Gambit and Rogue marry, and their relationship plays an important role in the animated series X-Men and X-Men ’97. Williams is not sure Gambit will appear in the first film at all.

Channing Tatum will return as Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday after debuting in Deadpool & Wolverine. Jake Schreier, director of Thunderbolts*, will direct the X-Men reboot. The film is scheduled to premiere on May 5, 2028.
