Spider-Man Game Sales Doubled After Spider-Man: Brand New Day Premiere

Sales of Spider-Man games roughly doubled after the premiere of “Spider-Man: A New Day,” Sony said.

The film starring Tom Holland has grossed more than $2.5 billion worldwide, but Spider-Man’s financial success didn’t stop there.

The premiere of “Spider-Man: A New Day” boosted sales of games about the friendly neighborhood hero. Sony reported that sales had roughly doubled during its quarterly results presentation on November 5. The context suggests the company was referring to Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man series, although Sony did not name specific games.

Sales of Marvel’s Spider-Man had surpassed 50 million copies by February 2024. That does not mean the games sold another 50 million copies after the film’s release. Sony said the games were being purchased twice as often, not that their cumulative sales had doubled. The company did not disclose the period it used for comparison or how many additional copies were sold.

“Spider-Man: A New Day” set a North American box office record and ranked third worldwide, earning more than $2.5 billion in total. From July through September, operating profit for Sony Pictures as a whole rose to $581 million from $93 million in the same period last year. Sony did not disclose how much profit the film itself generated.
