Stranger Things Star Lands a Lead Role in Magic: The Gathering Adaptation
Legendary and Hasbro plan to build a cinematic universe based on the iconic trading card game.
Legendary and Hasbro have confirmed that Maya Hawke, known for playing Robin Buckley in Stranger Things, will appear in the Magic: The Gathering adaptation. The name of her character remains secret, but according to Deadline, Hawke has landed one of the lead roles. She was offered the part without an audition: the producers approached her first, while many of the other cast members have yet to be found through casting.
Matt Johnson, known for the film BlackBerry, will direct. He is also writing the screenplay with Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald, but the filmmakers are keeping plot details under wraps for now.

Legendary and Hasbro announced the adaptation in 2025. The studios plan to use it to launch a universe of live-action films and TV series based on Magic: The Gathering. It is not yet known which of the card game’s many worlds will appear in the first film. The studios have not announced a release date.
