Spider-Man: Brand New Day Surpasses Avengers: Endgame Record
Seven years after Marvel assembled Earth’s mightiest heroes against Thanos, Avengers: Endgame has lost its spot on the domestic box office leaderboard. A fourth-Monday haul of $3.4 million lifted Spider-Man: Brand New Day to $858.4 million in North America, edging past the $858.3 million domestic lifetime gross set by Endgame.
The film now sets its sights on $900 million domestically. Only Star Wars: The Force Awakens has reached that threshold, holding the domestic record at $936.7 million. Brand New Day is about $41.6 million away from the $900 million milestone and roughly $78 million behind the top spot.
The theatrical run has set high marks from opening weekend. A $360 million domestic debut established a new North American record, passing Endgame. The movie also crossed $2 billion worldwide in fewer than three weeks, becoming the eighth film in history to hit that mark and the second-fastest to reach it after Endgame.
By its fourth weekend, global ticket sales reached roughly $2.22 billion, placing Brand New Day as the fifth highest-grossing film of all time. That total pushed the release past Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the global charts, leaving it close behind Titanic and Avatar: The Way of Water.

The long road to Doomsday
Conversations around superhero fatigue remain frequent, yet audiences continue turning out for Marvel releases. Beyond box office numbers, Brand New Day introduces key players to the wider universe. Sadie Sink makes her entrance as Jean Grey, the first X-Man to appear in the primary MCU timeline. Rather than portraying her as an established hero, the storyline introduces Jean as an unstable and dangerous antagonist, leaving room to develop her heroism later.
The franchise faces its next major theatrical test on Dec. 18 with Avengers: Doomsday. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the crossover brings together characters from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men against a multiversal threat. In an analysis of the MCU’s trajectory, Polygon noted that the franchise no longer commands the massive anticipation seen during the run-up to Infinity War and Endgame, making Doomsday a critical test of long-term audience commitment.

To help viewers prepare, Disney+ released a 15-movie “Countdown to Doomsday” watchlist designed to simplify the story leading into the upcoming event. The list starts with 2000’s X-Men, introducing the 20th Century Fox versions of Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, and Mystique. The sequence wraps up with 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which reveals the MCU’s latest version of the Fantastic Four and offers an early look at Doctor Doom.
