Sony Threatens Players With Legal Action Amid Disc Protests

Sony is facing criticism over abandoning physical editions and has introduced new rules against persistent demands, which in certain cases could involve legal measures.

Sony has faced criticism for several weeks over plans to abandon physical releases. Players regularly demand that games be kept on discs, leaving comments under PlayStation publications.

The company introduced a new anti-harassment policy. It covers threats, insults, intimidation, discrimination, and attacks on employees. At the same time, Sony also reserves the right to respond to “persistent and repetitive or prolonged demands,” requests unrelated to products or services, and inquiries directed straight at employees.

For violating the rules, Sony can restrict or completely block access to customer support. In serious cases, the company allows for cooperation with law enforcement agencies and legal action, including criminal proceedings.

At the same time, Sony has not stated that it will sue players for the demands to keep discs. The company has not yet specified how exactly the new rules will be applied and whether they will affect participants in the protest against the refusal of physical editions.
