Sony Prepares Major PS5 Update With New Features

Sony is preparing a major system update, version 14.0, for the PS5. The update will improve console stability, and on the PS5 Pro, the PSSR 2.0 technology will be enabled by default.

Sony has published the patch notes for the upcoming system update for PS5 beta program participants. PS5 firmware 14.0 is already undergoing testing, and a public release is expected in late September. Developers are currently focused on service optimization and system stability.

The main new feature will be PSSR 2.0 on the PS5 Pro. The upscaling technology will be active by default and will begin working right at the base rendering level. The update should reduce image artifacts and geometry flickering. In some cases, the improvements will work even without separate patches from game developers.

Sony is also changing how the wireless connection operates. Completely turning off Bluetooth will prevent the PS5 from entering rest mode, and HDMI Link will stop working. This feature is primarily being prepared for esports tournaments, where a large number of controllers can cause interference.

The update will also improve interface performance and system stability. However, the final feature set may still change.
