For many years League of Legends has remained one of the premier esports titles, and it still treats seasonal events with a healthy dose of humor. Summoner’s Rift usually looks familiar, but long-time players remember winters when the map was transformed into a snowy festival.
After a lengthy pause, Riot Games has formally confirmed the return of a winter-themed map.
In a dedicated video the studio showcased a snow-blanketed version of the map. This marks the first time since 2018 that Summoner’s Rift will receive a festive makeover — complete with snowdrifts, presents, snowmen, and League’s characteristic self-deprecating wit. Executive producer Paul Bellezza said the decision wasn’t planned in advance, but fans effectively compelled the studio to bring it back.
“Technically, we had to overhaul a lot of our tools and engine, but if this is what you really want — we’ll do it,” he said, lying in the snow and making a snow angel.
It remains unclear whether skins and rewards from past Snowdown Showdown events will return, but developers indicate this will be more than merely a visual update.
