Skate Lost 90% of Its Players on Steam in Two Months

Skate has seen a dramatic decline in its Steam player base. In the two months since entering early access, the game has lost more than 90% of its players.

At launch on September 21, the platform recorded 134,901 concurrent players, while current daily peak counts no longer exceed 12,000. That drop underscores waning interest, although Skate is also available on PlayStation and Xbox.

Every major title inevitably cools off after the initial surge when most players first try it, but the fall is especially notable given Skate’s ambitions as a live-service game. For single-player experiences this is less critical, yet for an online title still finding its footing it’s a concerning development.

Many Skate fans viewed the decision to incorporate live-service mechanics as ill-advised, arguing it may prove harmful over the long term.
