Sinners Director to Helm Black Panther 3

At a recent Sinners panel, director Ryan Coogler confirmed that his forthcoming project will be Marvel Studios’ Black Panther 3.

Speaking with Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr., Coogler said that—were the question coming from anyone else—he might have responded with the standard, “I can neither confirm nor deny.” Instead, he made clear the team is actively developing the film, adding, “we’re working on it hard. Yeah, it’s the next movie.” Deadline has the full exchange.

Marvel has not issued an official announcement for a third solo Black Panther installment, though the franchise’s direction was signposted in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Coogler, who directed the previous two films, is therefore a natural choice to return.

Last year actor Denzel Washington revealed he would play a specially created part in the new film, a casting decision Coogler later affirmed. Washington first announced the collaboration, and Coogler subsequently confirmed it to producers and press. Beyond Washington, no other casting has been formally confirmed—although it is widely expected that Letitia Wright will continue as the Black Panther after stepping into the role in Wakanda Forever.

Marvel has not set a release date; industry chatter suggests the studio may be targeting February 2028, but that has not been verified by Marvel.

The most recent Black Panther entry, Wakanda Forever, elevated Princess Shuri (Letitia Wright) to the mantle of the Black Panther while serving as an emotional tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman and his character, T’Challa. Despite its challenging production, the film earned approximately $859 million worldwide.

Looking ahead, Marvel Studios’ next theatrical release is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, co-produced with Sony’s Columbia Pictures and scheduled for July 31, 2026. That film will be followed by the large-scale MCU event Avengers: Doomsday in December.
