“Obsession” Star to Play Waitress in Apple Sci-Fi Series

Indie Navarrette, known for her breakout performance in Obsession, has signed on to star in the upcoming Apple TV+ science fiction film The Waffle House Index.

The screenplay, penned by newcomer Andrew Nunnelly, earned a coveted spot on the 2025 “Black List” of the industry’s most promising unproduced scripts. The narrative follows Jane (Navarrette), a waitress at a Waffle House whose routine shift descends into a surreal nightmare as a severe storm approaches. Throughout the night, Jane must navigate a series of bizarre threats, including an active shooter, ravenous crocodiles, extraterrestrial visitors, a nuclear explosion, and a mysterious, enchanted bunker buried directly beneath the diner.

The film’s title references the unofficial “Waffle House Index,” a metric utilized by the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to gauge the severity of natural disasters—such as hurricanes and tornadoes—and the subsequent recovery efforts required. Scottish director Louis Paxton, best known for the recent comedy The Arrival, is set to helm the project.

Following her acclaimed work in Obsession, Navarrette has secured the role of Rogue in the highly anticipated X-Men reboot. Furthermore, Focus Features is positioning her performance as the obsessed Nikki as a major contender for the upcoming awards season, with a strategic push for an Academy Award nomination.
