Sega and Rovio Tap Nostalgia as the “Space” Event Launches in Angry Birds 2
Angry Birds 2 is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and to mark the milestone Rovio has opted to breathe new life into its flagship series. After a lengthy pause, the studio is bringing back Angry Birds Space.
Rovio Entertainment — the studio that shot to fame years ago with its irate feathered characters — still derives revenue from titles like Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds Friends, and a variety of other franchise projects. Yet, with interest in mobile gaming softening, the Sega-owned publisher is searching for ways to rekindle player engagement, turning to nostalgia as a strategy.
From October 24 through November 21, Angry Birds 2 will host an Angry Birds Space event — a tribute to the overlooked installment that featured gravity-driven mechanics and distinctive outer-space stages. The event will be rolled out primarily on mobile platforms, and it remains uncertain whether the Windows version will receive the same update.
