“Scare Team Cherry with This”: Soulgrave Creator Proposes Alternative to Hollow Knight Silksong’s Contact Damage

A developer came up with a way to draw more attention to their project.

The launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong attracted significant attention, and some of its mechanics sparked heated debate. For instance, many players disliked that Hornet takes damage from mere contact with enemies (without being hit by an attack).

The creator of Soulgrave noticed this and decided to boast that damage in his game works differently than in Silksong:

“In Soulgrave there’s no contact damage. You only take damage if you’re struck by an attack or fail a specific mechanic. Share this video to give Team Cherry a scare.”

He later softened his tone toward his peers and framed the remark as a joke:

“Silksong is an excellent game, and Team Cherry are great — I’m just joking. Contact damage is a perfectly valid and different design choice, but it’s certainly worth discussing. If my game interests you, please add it to your wishlist.”
