Sam Raimi and Josh Cooley Attached to Roblox Movie Adaptation

Roblox horror survival hit game 99 Nights in the Forest is getting its own movie. Details about the upcoming movie remain scarce, but Josh Cooley and Sam Raimi have just been revealed to be attached to the project.

Movies and television shows based on video games have grown rapidly in recent years. The Super Mario Bros. movies proved to be great successes for Nintendo, as each grossing over $1 billion. A close third was A Minecraft Movie (2025), which already has a sequel lined up. Hollywood filmmakers are now turning popular video games into movies, ranging from The Legend of Zelda to Roblox games such as 99 Nights in the Forest.

Toy Story 4 director and Inside Out writer hired to work on 99 Nights in the Forest

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Cooley has been hired to write the screenplay for 99 Nights in the Forest. Josh Cooley directed Transformers One (2024) and Toy Story 4 (2019). For his work on Toy Story 4, he was awarded an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. He also wrote the screenplay for Inside Out (2015), which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

Sam Raimi is another prominent name associated with the upcoming Roblox movie. Sam Raimi directed the Evil Dead movies as well as Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy. He is joining 99 Nights in the Forest as a producer.

99 Nights in the Forest isn’t the only Roblox game being turned into a movie. Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot are also headed to Hollywood, as both popular Roblox titles currently have films in development.
