Russian Developers Release Platformer Gennady Inspired by Earthworm Jim
A new platformer rogue-lite has been released where death makes the hero stronger, and the journey leads through the shifting corridors of an alien meat processing plant.
Gennady is a fast-paced rogue-lite platformer featuring a frantic atmosphere, hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation, and battles against chthonic beasts, in which death becomes another step toward empowering the hero. The full version of the game was released on October 28, 2026.
Players will make their way through the shifting corridors of an alien meat processing plant filled with vile creatures. To survive, you must use your own body as a weapon, carving a path through hordes of enemies with fierce dashes and melee attacks.
One of the main features of Gennady is its unusual visual style. Hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation, a contrasting black-and-white palette, and pulsing color accents create the atmosphere of a dark comic book with a touch of absurdity and classic animation reminiscent of Earthworm Jim.
At the player’s disposal is a rage mode featuring increased speed, deadly attacks, and invulnerability. Collected currency can be used to purchase artifacts and upgrade the character and weapons. Huge boss battles await at the end of each biome.
A separate mechanic allows players to carry over accumulated artifacts into subsequent runs, gradually strengthening the hero. The project has repeatedly participated in the OUR GAMES show by IXBT Games.
