Reports Warn PS6 and Next Xbox Risk Unaffordable Pricing Amid Industry Crisis
The releases of the PS6 and Xbox Helix could be delayed until 2029 due to a global random-access memory shortage that SK Hynix projects will last until at least 2030.
SK Hynix, the world’s second-largest DRAM manufacturer, reported that it has already reserved more than half of its production capacity for 2027 and 2028. The company expects demand for memory to exceed supply for another 3 to 4 years. Building new plants requires massive investments and takes several years.
The consequences of the crisis are already visible in the DDR5 market. Component price increases will affect both new consoles and graphics cards.
The launches of the PS6 and Xbox Helix in 2027 and 2028 now look unlikely. The devices are expected to appear closer to 2029.

Some economists project an imminent collapse of the artificial intelligence bubble, which could reduce the demand for memory. Even in that scenario, electronics prices are unlikely to return to their previous levels immediately.
