Rockstar President Turns Down Major GTA VI Interview After Years of Planning

Plans changed drastically at the last moment.

The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is approaching, and the game’s creators are gradually sharing details about the new installment in the franchise. Rockstar Games developers are known for operating covertly and taking their time with details, but in recent months they have given a few interviews where players learned about the game world and the approach to creating main characters Lucia and Jason.

A major interview about Grand Theft Auto VI with Rockstar Games co-founder and president Sam Houser was expected soon. However, plans changed, and the exclusive GQ interview will not happen.

Players’ attention was drawn to a social media post by GQ writer Sam White. Sam White shared that negotiations had been underway with Rockstar for four years regarding an interview with Sam Houser, and confirmation arrived this April that the conversation would finally take place. However, word has now emerged that Houser backed out of the interview for personal reasons:

After a difficult year personally and so much effort poured into this story, it is especially disappointing to be left with nothing when dealing with a historically important game and an amazing developer whom I deeply respect. This would have been an ideal subject for a GQ feature—likely the biggest of my career! Well, moving on.

No further details regarding Sam Houser’s “personal reasons” are available. It appears that developer Rob Nelson will now be the primary person speaking about the new game.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
