Reports: Microsoft Remains Committed to Cloud Gaming as Xbox Strategy Continues
Microsoft is not planning to shut down Xbox Cloud Gaming, and the service’s discontinuation on certain Samsung televisions stems from the outdated technological foundation of those devices rather than any reduction in investment.
Starting November 3, the Xbox app will stop working on 2020 Samsung television models. Microsoft initially explained that this is due to new service technologies being incompatible with the older operating system version.
According to sources at Windows Central, televisions from that period no longer receive Tizen updates, whereas the new version of Xbox Cloud Gaming requires modern Chromium APIs for upcoming features related to image quality and latency.
Reports claiming that new controllers for Xbox Cloud Gaming have been canceled have also been refuted. Microsoft continues to develop devices with built-in Wi-Fi designed to reduce latency during cloud gaming.
At the same time, the company will indeed introduce usage time limits for cloud gaming in Game Pass starting in November, citing rising support costs for the service and the necessity of further investments in its stability and performance.
