Sonic Team Focuses on New Games Instead of Remakes and Remasters
Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka stated that the team prefers to spend its limited resources on new Sonic games rather than remakes and remasters, because they require nearly as much effort as development from scratch.
Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka stated that the team currently prefers to create new Sonic games and surprise fans. The team does not want to spend its limited resources on remakes and remasters.
Iizuka noted that fans regularly ask to bring back older games, such as Sonic Unleashed, even though the team’s resources are limited.
Instead of using these limited resources to create remakes and remasters, we would rather provide fans with new games and deliver new surprises.
According to Iizuka, a remake today takes about as many resources as developing a new game because graphics have to be recreated from scratch, and older gameplay cannot simply be carried over unchanged due to modern standards.

“That’s right (laughs),” Iizuka replied to a comment noting that even shifting from a 4:3 format to 16:9 is more difficult than it seems.
At the same time, the Sonic Team head is aware that some older games cannot be properly launched right now.
I would like to ask you to wait a little while.
